The Bosphorus Bridge is an iconic suspension bridge with a span of 1074m located in the heart of İstanbul, Turkey. Constructed in 1973, it is the first bridge over the Bosphorus Strait, connecting Asia and Europe. Carrying 3 lanes in each direction, the bridge is an extremely important link of the city transportation network with an average daily traffic over 180,000 vehicle/day.
Recently, the bridge has undergone a major retrofit work which also included replacement of the entire suspender system.
BridgeWIZ provided services for evaluating the performance of the newly installed suspenders through the use of a temprorary structural monitoring system installed on the bridge.
BridgeWIZ team first performed and assestment for the installed monitoring setup and then interpreted the data collected by the system. The behavior of the new vertical suspenders has been analysed under traffic and temperature loading and a performance evaluation has been done for the new vertical suspender system.
